Description

This course is designed to introduce students to nursing practice in the clinical setting. Students will demonstrate application of knowledge and skills learned from the foundational courses. Students will further develop skills in critical thinking and clinical judgment as they apply the principles of the nursing process, effective communication with patients, their family members, and other healthcare professionals, and implement therapeutic nursing interventions.

Upon course completion, students will be able to:

  1. Perform standardized protocols and safety measures used to ensure quality client care

  2. Demonstrate use of evidence-based practice in providing care and education to assigned clients

  3. Execute basic nursing skills that are based on client values, clinical expertise, and current evidence and research

  4. Show effective communication with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to plan and implement holistic care that meets the individualized needs of the client and their families.

  5. Utilize an electronic health record when planning and providing care for the client.
